Maple Sugar Made from Glucose.
There pre factories where bogus maple sirup is put up’in la way that is calculated to deceive any ns. The great demand for sirup early in the season has led to the manufacture from glucose, licorice and old maple sugar of an article that is fair ’in appearance butfoad in taste, and deleterious in its effects upon the system. These factories put their product up in gallon jugs generally, as that appears nujreeountrylike. They obtain from the nearest grain elevator a supply of corn cobs, and put one in each jug. The wdrk of Reception is completed by scattering grass seed upon the jug and obtaining some farm rig and a fellow in the garb of a farmer to peddle the product throughout the city: When people buy in this way they are certain tjmt what they are getting is good Mid countrymade.—Cleveland Leader. Bees are kept in Mexico chiefly for the wax they produce. Being a Catholic country, large numbers of caudles are wanted for burning in the churches, and the authorities allow no material to be used in making them but pure beeswax. The making of sassafras oil is now a leading industry in many parts of Virginia. The raw root costs $1.50 per 1,000 pounds. t A Wbbt Point cadet begins with the same pay which a Prussian Captain receives after twenty years of service. The hearts of men are their books; events are their tutors; great actions are their eloqsaiue.—Jfeoau&g.
