Vital Statistics.
The following is a synopsis of the Quarterly Report of the County Health Officer ending March 81st 1883. Number of Births reported daring January, February and March: Mates 29; Females 24; Sex not reported 1; Total 54; Births reported in Towns and Townships as follows: Rensselaer, 8; Remington, 9; Marion tp., 8; Carpenter, 8; Jordan, 2; Gillam, 4; Barkley, 3; Newton, -3; Union, 1; Keener, 1. Town and Township not mentioned in 7. There were no reports from 'Walker, Wheatfield, Kankakee, Hanging Grove and Milroy townships. Deaths occured from diseases as per reports as follows, viz:- Membranous croup 1, Congestion bf Lungs 2, Scarlet Fever 1, Sudden failure of Heart
after acute Pneumonia 1, Pneumonia following measles 1, Embolism and Hemiphegia 1, Scrofula 1, Consumption 1, Purpura Haemorrhagica 1, Broncho, Pneumonia following measles 1, Pneumonia 3, Catarral Pneumonia 1, Still Born 4. The attention of all concerned is called to the following extract from “An Act establishing a State Board of Health defining its powers duties etc. etc. Approved March 7th. 1881.” " Section 10. It shall be the duty of all physicians and accoucheurs, (midwives) in this state to register their names and post office address with the clerk of the Circuit Court of the county in which they reside, and alj such physicians and accoucheurs shall report to the Secretary •of the Board of Health of the town, ■city or county in which they may occur, and within fifteen days thereafter, all births and deaths which may occur under their supervision, with a certificate of the cause of death and such corrective facts as may be required in the blank forms furnished as provided in this act. When any birth or death shall occur with nopbysician or accoucheur in attendance, then such birth or death shall be reported as here-in-before provided by the householder, when or under whose observation such birth or death may occur, with the cause of death, if such be known. Any physician, accouchuer or householder wilfully or purposly, after notice by the Secretary of the local Board under whose jurisdiction such householders may live, failing ■or refusing to comply with the provissions of this section, shall be deemed guilty of 3 misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be fineu in any sum not less than five dollars nor more than ten dollars. * * * Persons required to make reports are requested to omit nothing in the blank, and to report as the statute requires. Some of the Justices of the Peace have been tardy in reporting marriages. • Several physicians living out of the county have not reported. Hereafter they will be expected to report fully and promptly as the instructions of the Secretary of the State Board of Health are to enforce the law.
