PERSONAL AND OTHER MENTION.
A young child died at the Orphan asylum this week. Judge Hammond is holding coart in Benton county this week. Louis Fleener is building'another house in Thompson’s addition. The epidemic of measles has about subsided in this immediate vicinity. Mr. T. J. Randle’s new brick residence is to cost S7OOO, we are informed. John Stwan is opening up a new farm in Newton township, four miles west of town. Mr. J. P. Carr Jr. the capable young editor of the Oxford Tribune, was in town Saturday. E. Hamilton of Royal Center, Cass Co., was in town last week, looking for a business location. Mrs. B. C. McCoy formerly of Jordan township, died of paralysis at her home in Howard county, week before last. Messrs M. B. and Tutus JI. Price started for Huron, Dakota, Sunday morning. They go with the intention of remaining. Mr. H. J. Dexter, has bought, and taken possession of the news, confectionary, and notion store, of H. E. James, in the post-office. Sheriff Powell and his assistants have done a good job in cleaning up the Court House yard, and trimming the trees therein.
M. F. Chilcote started on a business visit to Kingman county, Kansas, Tuesday morning. He expected to be gone but a few days. A traveling doctor is to be here soon, who will, no doubt make large promises and take large fees. You had -better patronize those you are acquainted with. Dr. I. C. Kelley has gone to Richmond, this state, to look . after the interests of the Aetna Life insurance company there. He will be away for a month or two. Mr., T. J. Sayler has sold his mill on the Monon, and With his family, is now in Rensselaer. He thinks some of taking a look at Dakota soon. Mr. Jay Williams is having material placed on the ground, and work done on the foundation of his residence on Divison street, north of Judge Hammond’s place. Dr. J. W. Horton has been to Union City, Michigan, for a few days visit to friends at that place. The Doctor finds some pretty strong attraction there, it is quietly whispered. Dr. Deming has been appointed supervisor of the road district, south of town. He has twelve hands and twelve miles of roads. They will have to, spread themselves. Dr. E. P. Washburn of Linden, Indiana, was here Sunday and Monday, visiting his son, Mr. Newt Washburn, the present manipulator of night lightning for the Railway company. Mr. B. C. McCoy, an old resident of Jordan |p., but who has been living at Shanghai, this state, for a year past, lips returned to end his days in Jasper county. Mr. McCoy is mourning the loss of his wife who was taken from him the earlier part of this month. Mrs. C. P. Hopkins received information by telegraph, last Thursday, xher mother, Mrs. D. B. of Hennepin, 111., was dying and took the first tiain for that place, but reached there a few hours too late to see her olive. Mrs. Albert was about 65 years of age, at the time of her death. Dr. O. C. Link will start for Altoona, Dakota, to-day, to look after his landed interests there, and to brace up his health with a climate or two(in allopathic doses). He will be away forjhree months, and haves his office and medical practice in? charge of Dr. W. M. Hartsell, an experienced homeopathic physician from Illinois. .-.v. .
