A Reasoning Toad.

New Hampshire Gazette, A brood of chickens ware fed 1 with moistened meal in saucers, and when! the dough soured a little it attracted purge numbers of flies. An observant jtoad had evidently noticed this, and every day along toward evening, he would make his appearance in the yard, hop to a : saucer, climb in, and roll oveir until he was covered with meal, having done whiOh he awaited developments. The flies, enticed by the smell, soon swarmed around the soheming batrachian, and whenever one passed within two inches of his node his tongue darted out and the fly disappeared. This plan worked so well that themtoad made a regular business of it. ■
