REMINGTON ITEMS.
Dear Republican,— We wish you and your readers one and all a “Happy. New Year.’- Now is the time for good resolutions and yre hope that many will- be made and well adhered to, “Let the wicked man forsake his ways and the unrighteous man his thoughts,” now at the beginning of a new year: ‘ The Christmas trees were decided success, but as descriptions, or rather notices, of them appeared in last week’s News it will not be neoessary to say any more about them. The nebular theory of Sir Isaao Newton and other eminent astronomers was knocked whirling into space last Saturday night by Asa F. Green of Troy, Ohio, who delivered a lecture in Exchange Hall to a small bat select audience. Aside from the peculiar appearance of tho.speaker and the crudity of his ideas, there was nothing of interest in the leoture.
A telegram was received by Mrs. Job Bains of this place; from Cleveland Ohio, informing her that her husband, who had started east a few days before, was lying at that place, in an iifeepsible condition. Mrs. Bains sent a message saying she wunted him well takon care of until she could get to him. A telegram was also sent by the I. O. O. F. here to the brethren at Cleveland to take good care of him* and of course he would have ’ every attention. According to later advices lb is improving.
Misses Belle and Ollie Alter, T. E. and F. C. Price of Rensselaer, spent last Sunday with the parents of the young gentlemen near this place. A pleasant time was reported by others who were present. D. Morris Nelson who is Superintendent of the Worthington public schools spent, his vacation with friends in this place. He reports six teachers and two hundred and eighty pupils under his charge. I’hdse Mio know Mr. Neisofi need not be told that the responsible position is ably filled. He returned to his work on Monday last. The ladies of tho W. C. T. U. are circulating petitions for a special election to vote on the prohibition amendment. We hope they will be successful. -
