Late again. —Owing to the fact that a necessary part of our printing apparatus was sent to Chicago for repairs, and not returned on time, we are considerably late this week. Five rail-roads, of which the L. N-A. & C. is one, enter Chica?;o over the tracks of the Western ndiana. These five have lately made a Joint purchase of the Western Indiana, and it is now proposed to build a grand union depot on Harrison street, much farther into the city than the present one. Just why anyone should think of applying the term, Coup de., Grace, to a miscellaneous literary, musical and spectacular entertainment is “one of those things,” as Dundreary says, “which no feller can find out. But that does not prevent us from believing that the entertainment to be given at the Opera House to-morrow (Fridav), evening will be a very enjoyable affair; and as it has been gotten up for the very commendable purpose of giving the bovs of the band the benefit of a boost it deserves a liberal patronage.
The announcement of the Christmas entertainment* to be given at the Presbyterian church, appears in another place. It was not only handed in late, but the list of names composing its various committees is so evidently a full copy of the census roll of the town, with duplications and triplications, and even quadruplications, thrown in to swell the total, that sheer lack of capital letters compels us to the use of much smaller type than would otherwise have been selected for its publication. The town is cram jam full of new Goods; our merchants are cram slam full of enterprise, conser tly The Republican is cram full of new advertisements. Read them carefully, and take to heart this lesson: liberal advertising means large business; large business means small profits; small profits mean a good place to trade at. And there is where you strike Rensselaer, exactly; no better pla**e for trading can be found in Noithe-n Indiana.
