INDIANA'S GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY.
Never since the toi raattori Of the party have the Republicans of lndianft hftd such an opportunity to step into the front rank 'as now. With Ohio temporarily lost Kv default, the Republicans, of Indiana have it in their hands to carry oft'the laurels of 18$2. A pronounced Republican victory in Indiana, after the adverse example of Ohio, would place the party in this State in a commanding position. It would make Indiana a solid and reliable Republican State. M would make Indiana Republicans the jnost influential in the Nation. The ques. ion would then bo, not what can we give but what dees Indiana want. It
would put Indian* in the lend in Congrats, -nnd. in all branches of the government. This position at the head of the Republcan columns is worth striving for, anu in addition to this incentive is that other of holding the State against the unAmerican demands of the liquor league. The issue between the two parties is as clearly drawn as in any campaign during the past twenty years. On the one side a party declares in favor of majority'\ule. On the other, Pem_ ocracy bows to the demands of the liquor league, and accept its will as law. The Republican party represents law and order and an open ballot-box. Democracy is the exponent of all that is vicious, lawless and defiant, of the best sentiment of the community, and has placed itself between the people and a free vote. He who has eve r been a Republican can be a Republican this year, and glory in the fact. A Republican triumph this year will make it as creditable to be an Indiaua Republican as it was during the war to be ah Indiana soldier. With ludiana as the key-stone in the Republican arch, the glory of the victory in 1884 will be ours, Indiana polities will then be the politics of the Nation, and Indiana men would at once step to the high and responsible positions for which they ar? eminently qualified, and and the honor resu.ting therefrom would be reflected upon every Republican voter in the State. The party’s duty is plain. Republican vote in Indiana must be gotton into the ballot-box on the 7th this month. That done, and the victory is ours, for the day has not come when a majority of the people of Indiana will pronounce against popular sovereignty. A full vote, and the State is ours. No effort should be spared to get out every man. Let the good work go on with unabated vigor. The result will be a triumph for the right. The treasurer’s office is one of the most important in the county, and Dr. Alter is exactly the right kind of a man to keen there.
