Corn husking is near at hand. Cider makirfg is the order of the day. Mr. C. W. Faris has returned from Ladoga where he has been attending school. and Mrs. Joseph Mason of Fort Wayne have been visiting their relatives daring the past week. L. E. Faris; Union, unknown. Mrs. George and James Robinson of Kansas are visiting friends in Gi 11am. Mr. and Mrs. William Robinson have also returned. Hon. Gilman gave the people of Giilam an interesting speech on the “issues of the day r ’ at Pleasant Ridge lust Saturday evening. Miss Ida Stevens is visiting friends in Ohio. Mr. Thomas Robinson has purchased the farm belonging to his uncle, John Hanley, of Lafayette. *’ ♦ Died:— At the residence of his widowed mother iu Giilam township Jasper Co., Ind., Oct., 16th 1882, in the 24th year ot his age, Amos Lane. t He was the only son of his widowed mother, and an affectionate and obedient boy, upon whose willing arm, in later years she has leaned for comfort and support. His bufferings were great, but he trusted in the Lord Jesus and died iu a full hope of a Heavenly herealber. The funeral services* were conducted by Rev. George Guild and were attended by a very large concourse of people, estimated to number riot less th 'n 500. The text for the funeral discourse was, “For I know that my Redeemer livetli.” R. L. P. The school bonds were sold, on Thursday last, to Messrs Spitzer & Co. of Toledo Ohio at 1 per ct. Premium or, to quote it, #l.Ol and at 6 per ct. interest.

Married.* At Peoria, HI., on Wednesday, Oct., 9th, Mr. Ben Tuteur, of Rensselaer, to Miss Derrwachter, of Peoria. Married; —Aa the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Crosscup, the bride’s parents, on the Remington road, in Jordan township, on Tuesday eveningj Oct., 24th, Mr Samuel P. Daugherty, of Rens selaer, to Miss Etta Crosscup, of Jordan township. Ceremony performed by tho Rev. B. F.Fergusos. The happy event was commemorated by an elegant wedding dinner at the residence of Mr. and Mrs Allen Catt, in this place,yesterday. Couut notes: -The Grand Jury found but one indictment, viz: against Chas, Roberts and Samuel Buxton, the Reunion pickpockets. There being no evidence to warrant an indictment, Henry Jones, the colored boy from Union township, was discharged; whether with the jury’s blessing or without, deponent vsaith not. The grand jury visited the poor farm and made a very commendatory report on Mr. Phillip’s method of conducting that institution. The Court was engaged most of last week in hearing road cases. Roberts and Paxton the pick-pockets were brought from Monticello for trial, but having been granted a continuance until next week, they w ere taken back to White county* As will be seen from an account elsewdiere given, they have themselves extended that same “continuance” for au indefinit period of time. On Monday* the court adjourned for a week; and Judge Hammond (vent to Lafayette to hear some important cases there Cattle Sale: —The subscriber will sell at auction, at his residence, one and one-fourth miles north of Pilot Grove Store, in Newton couuty Ind., (10 miles north-west from Rensselaer,) on Friday, November 3d. 1882. 58 head of stock cattle, as follows: 38 two year old steers, 10 yearlings and 10 two year old heifers Terms of sale: 10 month’s credit without interest will, be given, purchaser executing usual bankable note. If not paid at maturity, notes to draw 8 per cent, interest from date.
