A Matter of Politics.
In 1822 William Eustis and Harrison Gray Otis were running for Governor of Massachusetts. Both were Unitarians. Soon there came to Oti3* ear the rumor that Eustis was carrying all before him in Western Massachusetts by reason of his orthodoxy. It was a day or two after the voting that Otis fell in Avith Eustis, Avith whom he was well acquainted, when he hailed him with: “How is it, Eustis, about that story that you were orthodox? How long have you been that way of thinking, I’d Like to know ?“ “Oh, only just before election l" laughingly replied Eustis. Certainly an elegant remedy for all aches and pains is St. Jacobs Oil, says Dr. J. Turner, of Shirrell's Ford, N. C., in the Ravenswood, W. Va., News. Oraig Skidmore, of Stauford, Ky. was charged with forging the license under Avhioh he Avas recently married, but the tidal resulted in his acquittal. It came out that the paper he offered as a marriage license was not inspected by either the bride’s father or the officiating clergyman, and as it had disappeared there Avas no proof that a forgery had committed. It is also stated that the woman is already the mother of an illegitimate child, and that the preacher aylio tied the knot got a half gallon of whisky for the job. He is said to have skipped out to avoid testifying iu the case.
