PERSONAL MENTION.
Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Porter, returned last week from a visit to friends in Ohio. John Watt of Los,Vegas, New Mexico, is visiting friends and relatives Jasper Co. this week. Miss Clara Rossbocber, of Terre Haute, is visiting Mrs. John Eger. The elder Mrs. Crockett, departed Wednesday morning for an all winter’s visit to friends in Nebraska. Mr. J. A. Pierce, formerly of Rensselaer, now of Kearney, Neb., is looking after his interests in this vicinity, just at present. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Roberts, of Sardinia, Decatur Co., are visiting Mr. Roberts brothers, Charles A. and Lewis* Mr. and Mrs. J. Peacock, who have been visiting friends in New York and Pennsylvania all Summer have now gone to Gallatin Tennessee. Mr. W. B. Austin has gone to Chicago, to take a course in the Union Law School, in that city, the best institution of the kind in the west. Robt. Parris lias won first premium on his span of carriage horses at the Remington, Rensselaer, and Francisville fairs. G. H. Brown took second at Francisville. Miss May ,Washburn has gone j to California for the benefit of ber health. She will remain at least a j year if she finds the climate beneficial, as we are confident she will. The proprietor of the Lowell Local News, Mr. W. H. Mansfield, lias leased his paper for theeterm of one year to R. O. Willis, of Valparaiso.
We hear from our old friend, C. P. Mayhew to the effect that j he is well satisfied with his Cali ifornia residence, and that he has j found the climate to be very beneficial to his health. J Louis Kern has been in Dakota a week or two, and Tuesday morning Dr. Link, and F. J. Soars started for the same happy hunt- , ing ground. F. L. Cotton would 1 have gone with them but was de- | tained by the sickness of his wife.
C. D. Stackhouse is building a good on his farm. Clint •does not do things by halves. He has tiled much of his land and the result is a good crop of corn when nearly every body is complaining of short crop. Mr. and Mrs, E. P. Honan visited friends in the remote northern end of Jasper lost week. While | there Ed. went gunning in compa--1 ny with Mr. W. F' Schaeffner, the Jtrustee of Wheatfield, and by so [directing his gun that lie would I hit him if a republican, and miss him if a democrat, he put a pellet of shot in the latter's ear and another in his back. The dumuge was not serious. Primary “A” department in the public schools is closed this yeek, Mrs. Coble, the teacher having been called away by the serious illness of her |athei. The Reynolds <fc Johnson, Combination of colored minstrels gave a successful entertainment to a large audience at the Operu House Sat j urday evening.
