—G. W. Terhune has purchased property and now lives in Raton, New Mexico. —Alfred Hoover has purchased the fatln of Michael Moriarty of Jordan Township. Captain J. M. Wasson has purchased the old Lccklider farm five miles South-east of town. .. Cash Hopkins has moved to Dayton Tippecanoe County where he and Jeduthen Hopkins have purchased a mill. —Miss May Miller is attending the State Normal School at Terre Haute. She will probably be there until June, 1883v_ Thomas Boroughs has sold his town property and will move to Kansas in a short time. Mr, White is the purchaser. Hon. MarkL. DeMott, will address the citizens of Jasper and Newton counties, at Rose Lawn, next Saturday, Sept 23d. Let everybody tyrn out. Perry D. Cork ins, former editor of the Fowler Era, died at his residence in Fowler, after a long illness, on the 9th inst. Hon. Fred Hoover does not claim to be a very strong democrat just now. He wants Republican votes and wants them bad, too. He wont even swear by Voorhees. Yeoman of Newton, Wm. McElfresh of Barkley and Ben. Oglesby of Hanging Grove townships are building good houses on their respective farms. Born—Unto Mr. & Mrs. S. P. Thompson a daughter; Mr, & Mrs. Hiram Day a daughter; Mr. & Mrs. Edgar L. Bruce a son; Mr. &. Mrs. Alvin Clark a daughter; and Mr. <fc Mrs. Frank Osborn a son. —All who expect to take quarters at Camp Milroy at the reunion next week should bring their blankets. Good quarters and rations will be furnished the soldiers, but each one should provide himself with bedding. The name of Dr. J, H. Loughridge was accidentally omitted last week from the list of citizens who called upon Gen. Sheridan and invited him to attend the Reunion. The Doctor is chairman of the committee on invitations and his name should have appeared by all means. All who want to “shake” with gallant Phil. Sheridan should'attend the Reunion at Rensselaer on the 28th. Governor Porter and staff will probably be here also. AU so’dierg should be here by 9 o’clock Wednesday the27th. —The “Camp Fire” of McPherson Post. G. A. R., well be held at Starr’s Hall on Sept. 29th, aud will be free to all. Come out and enjoy an evening with the Old Soldiers.
All-soldiers of Jasper County are requested to meet in their respective townships at 2 o’clock n. m, next Saturday to organize. They will meet at the Court Square in Rensselaer on Wednesday the 27th to perfect their organization, when the different squads and platoons will be organized into companies. The persons appointed to superintend this work in the several townships are requested to give it their prompt attention. The Soldiers Re-Union to be held at Rensselaer, Sept. 27,28 and 29, promises to be the greatest affair of the kind ever held in Northern Indiana. —Kentland Gazette. A card from Rensselaer states that Gen. P. H. Sheridan has promised to be present at the Soldiers’ Reunion there September 28th and 29th. A grand time is expected and excursion rates will be gi ten from here for the benefit of all wishing to attend.—Logansport Journal. The largest number of people ever congregated at Rensselaer will meet at the Soldiers’ reunion next week. But the executive committee are thoroughly organizing everything to make all who attend comfortable, and quarters will be provided for 2000 people at Camp Milroy. The hotels, boarding houses and all dwellings where visitors can be kept, will be filled to their fullest capacity. Let all do their best to make the Reunion a success and everybody happy. Main® was the last ditch, the very strong-hold, of fusion and the result there has sounded its death knell for all time. — The Rev. B. F. Ferguson will go to Ridgeville Thursday night to attend yearly meeting. He will remain over Sunday and his appointment for Sunday night is accordingly withdrawn. The Rev. Wm. The church of God will commence a Meeting of Days at Goodland on Friday next to continue over the following Sunday. Elder Reed of Chicago, Elder Halstead of Rensselaer, and other public proclaimers o the gospel will be in attendance. Two Jasper couuty farmers bought and planted some seed potatoes said to be the Early Rose. After due time, as the plants failed to come up, they prepared to put ifi other crops on the ground, thinking the seed potatoes worthless. On. disturbing the ground what was their surprise to find the hills were filled with new potatoes in a forward state of growth. No vines or tops have been visible at, any stage of growth. John A. Hamilton, of Goodland, is authority for this statement. Mr. J. C. Kloenne, of Logansport, raised a crop of potatoes this season under exactly the same circumstances, the truth of which is established beyond question.-Logansport Journal.
