Keep it before the people that Murk L. DeMotte, the “Missouri • statesman” voted for the 1 liver and Harbor steal, one of the most gipantie pieces of robbery the world ' ever knew— Newton.Co. News. .Yes. you howling herd of hypocritical hounds. And why not ''‘keep it before the people” that Da n W. Voorhees, voted for the ■ same bill ? Dan W. Yuorhoes the man whom, of all others the democratic state convention singled, out to honor, glorify and “indorse.” The truth is, these unprincipled curs who are howling against DeMotte for his votes on the River and “Harbor Bill”, and the “Knit Goods” bill neither knowo nor care anything bout the merits of the bills, or of Ihe propriety of De Motte’s votes. Voorhees Voted the Same as De Motte on both bills, and two years lienee the •''■miserable wretches will praise Voorhees for the very same acts for which they now condemn DeMotte,. Whatever may be the merits or the demerits of the River and Harbor bill, and it undoubtedly has both, it is iu no 'sense a steal: The Congressmen who passed the bill have no more chance to deal the money it appropriates than has the editor of the Newton county News; nor half the inclination ne’el be sworn.
ft would seem that Lafayette has not “a dead sure thing” of the L. N-A. & 0. repair shops after all. Nothing has been definitly settled yet and it is not at all unlikly that Delphi, or some other place, will outbid Lafayette. Delphi, in'fact, claims to be way ahead in liberality of inducements. The Managers of the coming State Lair, commencing September 25, express great encouragement from the bright prospects for success by the early opening up the ■ buisness connected therewith; the anxiety of old exhibitors to secure more space and the several applications to erect special buildings on the grounds for exhibition purposes at private cost. Arrangements are pending for special attractions during the Fair in addition to a large premiums on speed, All (he Institutions at the Capi- ( d City will be prepared to receive * visitors during the fair week, and inis will be a rare opportunity, at reduced railroad rates K to visit the now House, jn process of • on.- ’Cion.
