R. r a roprosentative of The Republican joined • party of newspaper men gathered up from along the whole line of the road, in on excursion to Cedar Lake; that soon to be celebrated Summer resort, some six and thirty miles north-west from Rensselaer. The party was under the direct management of Mr. Keller himself. At Cedar Lake the party was increased by several members of tho journalistic fraternity from Chicago. Cedar Lake is a beautiful and romantic little sheet of water, a “watery gem” the Inter-Ocean calls it, some three miles in its greatest length by one and a half miles at its greatest width. A pretty little pleasure steamer makes frequent trips around its undulating shores, and numerous rowing and sail-boats dot its surface. Accommodations for visitors are furnished in a, large Hotel Encampment. The central office is a wooden structure, while eating, sleeping, cooking and dancing, are carried on in a large number of tents of various sizes. 'George M. Robinson was sheriff of Jasper county four years, (the same lengtn of time Mr. Novels has held the much more lucrative office of Auditor), and his administration of that office was considered the best the county had ever had. He was competent to attend to all the duties and was obliging andaccommodating to all with whom he came in contact in the discharge of official duties. In view of the fact of his past record the majority of the Republicans of Jasper county said they wanted him for the office of Auditor, and he is now before them as a candidate, not altogether of his of choice, but because they knew nim to possess in an eminent decree the qualifications for the office, and they will see to it that he is elected by an overwhelming majority, despite all the Democratic lies that are being thrown at him. Democratic dirt is awful filthy, but it has not a very lasting effect. Dr. Thomas, Oculist, Annul, nud Derma Utlogial, of Lafnvotte, will be at Dr. I. !».* Washburn’s office; Rensselaer, on the first Saturday of each month, oatumenciog August sth.
