Work has been commenced on the new Catholic church, on the lot near Mr. M. F. Chilcote’s residence. Mr. John Cook and wife of Goodland, passed Sunday and Monday in our place, guests of Mr. R. H. Percupile. David J. Thompson has gone to Michigan on a pleasure trip, fishing to a great extent will lie indulged m by David. Mr. Franklin I). King, an exsoldier, has long been in poor health; suffering from third-day ague and other diseases, contracted in the array. The Right Rev. Joseph Dwenger, bishop of Ft. Wayne, came to Rensselaer Tuesday evening on business connected with the new Catholic church.
It is expected that the “short cut” into Chicago will be finished by the L., N- A. <ft C. R. R., in about two weeks. This will shorten the running time into Chicago from this place about half an Hour. Mrs. Fannie 0., wife of JJIr. W. H. Rhoades is making arrangements to visit Battle Creek, Mich., for the btlrpose of medical treatment. Mrs. R. has been an invalid for several years. We hope she may be benefited by her visit.
