The Republican Ticket.
JAMES F. IRWIN. The nominee for Clerk of the Circuit Court, is too well known in Jasper county for us to repeat -his past history. Four yews ago he received the Republican nomination for the same position, but was defeated by the Greenback vote, which was then about 500 in the county—mostly from the RepuV lican ranks. Mr. Irwin is at present Trustee from Carpenter town ship, to which position he was elected by an almost unanimous vote of the townships regardless of politics. He is a man of splendid business capacity, and will make a first-class officer. His election is a forgone conclusion. - GEORGE M. ROBINSON, the nominee for Auditor, is probably acquainted with more people in Jasper county than any other man in it. He was twice elected Sheriff—in 1876 and 1878—leading the ticket both times. He made one of the best officers the county ever has had. He is an affable, courteous gentleman, is possessed of fine business qualifications, and is one of the strongest men in the county without a doubt. He will be elected by a rousing majority this fall. THOMAS ANTRIM. the nominee for Recorder, is one of the oldest residents of Jasper county and has been an unfaltering Republican since the organization of the party. He is thoroughly qualified for the position to which he,,/ill be elected next fall, and no stronger man could have been nominated. MOSES B. ALTER, received the re-nomination for Treasurer without oppositon. He has made cne of the best officers who has ever occupied.the Treasurer’s office, and no man can pick a flaw with his public or private record. He will be re-elected by a large majority.
JOHN W POWELL, for Sheriff, was nominated without opposition. He is a faithful, efficient and accommodating officer, and he will carry the full strength of the party, which means that he will be elected by 450 majority. FRANK J. SEARS, for coroner, was also nominated without opposition. He is capable of discharging the arduous duties of coroner with abihtv, and will prove a splendid sheriff when the opportunity is presented for him to take it. LEWIB s. alter, was re-nominated for Surveyor without op position. He has conducted the business of his office in a commendable manner nnd will be re-elected notwithstanding he is a third termer. Messrs. Prevo, Nichols and' Way mire, the nominees for Commissioners of their respective districts, are all men of integrity and they will make a strong board. They will all be elected. All in all, no better ticket could have been named, and every Republican should put forth his best efforts for its final success. Commissioners’ • Court. —The Board of Commissioners are put-' ting in a solid week of hard work. Passing on claims against the county road and bridge matters, and applications for saloon licenses have occupied most of the session so far. Jas. T. Ellis and Thos. Harris, of Remington, were licensed without contest. Michael Halloran, of Rensselaer, applied for license, but the temperance people engaged the services of F. W. Babcock to oppose the application. Mr. Halloran’s side of the case was managed by John F. Boroughs and Jas. W. Douthit. After a long and eager contest tiie application was denied by a majority vote of the commissioners. Halloran will appeal to the circuit court. Died.—Wednesday mornirg of internal cancer, after a long and painful illness, Mrs. Mary Harbolt, wife of J. B. Harbolt, long of Monticello, more lately of Rensselaer. The remains were taken to Monticello for burial. In accordance with the last wishes of the deceased a post-mortem examination held at Monticello, conclusively established the nature of the disease.
