The Republican Primary Elec-'Vtofi-4s—in progress as we go to | press. The result will be generally known before another number of The Republican can be issued. It is quite probable that some portions of the county will not be so .veil represented upon the ticket as •may to them seem just but it must < be,remembered that it is a difficult natter in a primary election to j ive as much consideration to the: claims of locality, as could be done j ni a delegate convention. A number of good men must necessarily !>e disappointed, but if they are j nen as we believe them to be, if i .hev are men in any way deserviiig’d the Republican party, either .now or herearfter,—then they will .ccept in a manly and honorable I pirit the result of the election, tlnd give to their successful rivals and to the entire ticket, as genuine and hearty support would had they themselves been the nominees. A man who cannot accept deteat in a cheerful and philosophic •manner, ought never to ask for a political office.

Hamer has moved his jewelry tore into Duvall’s building on Front street. That room now contains a boot and shoe factory, a Harness shop and a jewelry store.

Greenback Meeting.

The Hon. J. N. Speer will address the citizens of Remington on Thursday, June 15th, 1882; Egypt, i n Friday, June 15th; Rensselaer, Saturday, June 17th, and on Sunslay, June 18th, will give his “Bible History” lecture; on Monday, the ,19th, at Pleasant Grove; and on Tuesday, June 20th in Wheatfield township.—All at 2 o’clock unless otherwise ordered. At the suggestion or the First Assistant Postmaster/ General, I have written HoracefE. James, Postmaster at Rensselaer, to prepare a map of the northern portion of Jasper county, showing the proposed mail route and the!various offices asked for. The First Assistant must pass upon the various applications, and that injustice pay not be done, full information should be furnished as to best road, bridges, shortest distance, <fcc. Those interested will please furnish,lso soon as practicable, to*Mr. James, the exact location of the postoffices asked for and such other factsSas they may deem material. \ If tne matter of the location of postoffices be adjusted, 1 have good reason to believe that I can, after July Ist, have special service put on the route.
