The poll books and tally sheets, of the various townships to lye returned to the county central committee, on or before the Saturfollowing the election.by the chairman, or some other member of the township committee. The county committee will act as a canvassing

Upon the ballots so furnished, under the heads of the different oflices to be filled, will be printed the names of all the known candidates for the offices, and the voter tfrill prepare his ballot by erasing with pen or pencil, all names except the one he wishes to vote for. Rjnnk spaces also will be left for the insertion cf names r.ot already upon the ticket, should the voter choose to do so. Voter? are especially cautioned to leave but one name on the ticket for each place. The eehtral committee recommend that the votes of all legal voters who will be willing to support . the Republican county nominations in the November election, be .accepted. It is desirable that every Republican in the several townships of the county, attend the primary .election. Do not fail to be present early and bring your Republican neighbors with you, and let us nominate a ticket that will be elected by an overwhelming majority, and one of which wo will all be proud. By order of the Jasper county Rep üblican Central Committee. §MonDECAi F. Chilcote, Pres. C, F. OvERACKEii, Sec’y.

Barnes, of Fowler, visited friends in Rensselaer over Sunday. Mr. G. W. Hascall, of the Remington News, made us a pleasant call this w eek. Owing to the removal of the office the paper is late. Nichols, of Barkley, as candidates for commissioner, in this the*second district subject to the Republican Primary Election. They are both good men, and as they are the on1} names mentioned in connection with the position, in any event we will be sure of a good man. In the third district, Mr. Chris, 'rfensler declines to be a candidate, leaving the field alone to Mr. John Way mire for the nomination.
Withdrawed froin Canvass.
Mr. W. I" Florence, of Barkley, requests us to announce his withdrawal as a candidate for the nomination for Circuit Clerk. This action on the part of Mr. Florence is the result of an «■ agreement between himself and Mr. C. C. Sigler whereby a canvass was made of the townships of Marion and Barkley, and the one having the fewest supporters in the two townships withdraws in favor of the other. There is a strong probability that a certain scandalous intrigue, the particulars of which are already too well known, will yet result in bloodshed. Revolvers have more than once been drawn already, and nothing but the flight of one of the parties prevented a catastrophe lsst Tuesday night. In this connection we would remark, that whatever may be the fault of the parties implicated, the breaking of those windows when none but a couple of defenceless woman and one of them .very aged in the room was a dastardly outragewliich every good citizen will condemn. Mr. TV m. Yenrick, was yesterday brought before ’Squire Wood charged with an assault upon the person of Mr. Thomas Robinson, in view of the fact that Mr. Robinson bore ocular evidence of the asupon his nasal organ. Mr.Vennck acknowledged .direliction and was fined five dollars and costs. Mr. Venrick then returned the fa vor by filing an affidavit charging Mr. Robinson with the offence of provoke: The hearing of the provoke case is set for Friday. The committee upon the mill dam, and the subject of drai.mge generally.held a protracted meeting Saturday, but as they failed to agree upon any policy, another public meeting has not yet been held.
On Thursday, next June Ist, the date of our next issue, will occur the Republican Primary Election. We take ibis last opportunity to urge upcp the Republican voters of the county the duty of attending, voting and work ing at the election. With a good ticket and harmony in the party, the en - tire Republican ticket will be elected this fall in Jasper county by a splendid majority. Let the Primary Election be so conducted that not only the strongest men be. nominated, but also that there be no possible justification for any disaffection over the result* The offices of Treasurer, Sheriff, and Surveyor are secure. The present faithful, efficient and popular incumbents will be re-nominated without opposition, and will be re-elected, as they well * deserve. For each of the remaining county offices there ure several candidates in the field, and, although, of all of them, there are none but of whom we can truly say that we believe, if elected, they will make good officers, nov yet are there any whom we will not heartily and cordially support if nominated, nevertheless we think there is no question but that some of them will make stronger and more available candidates than others. Onr political opponents realize this fact with perfect clearness, and there is no doubt whatever but that they are scheming, night and day, fdr some means, to force upon our ticket certain men whom they could hope to defeat in the fall election. We do not for an instant, suppose that any of the gentlemen who are seeking the Repuglican nominations would knowingly permit themselves to be made tools of in that manner, but nevertheless the Democratic wirepullers intend to use them for their own purposes if they can. It must be remembered that this Primary Election is strictly a Republican affair. It is not a public election by any means. The various township committees, acting as judges of these elections, will incur no legal liabilities in refusing to receive any vote which may be offered them, and it will be their right and their duty to decline to receive any votds unless they beliove that tlioiperson tendering it is acting in good faith, and will support the Republican nominations.
