TORHEHT, IMDEED. I Lift's vexations do not generally come on own like a storm, descending the mountain or like a ■Whirlwind: they come as the rain does in some sections or the world—gently, bat every .day. What does Tom do but steal into the chapel at Vesper time and slide into Father Jacobs confessional box and beg of him a bottle of his oil with which to rub his dorg. The Father felt of Tom’s head; it was hot an’ afore Tom could utter a prayer, twg men were luggin’ him home followed by a great crowd, who kept at a safe distance, thinking he had been-bit by a mad dorg. Collector of Internal Revenue, of this city, has spent over two thousand dollars on medicine for nis wife, who was suffering dreadfully from rheumatism, and without deriving any benefit whatever; yet two bottles of St. Jacobs Oil accomplished what the most skillful medical men failed in doing. We could give the names of hundreds who have been cured bv this wonderful remedy did space permit us. The latest man who has been made happy through the use of this valuable liniment is Mr. James A. A Grass-Eating Tran p.
A tramp. in Terre Haute thought to wring rood and money from.the adamant heart of an,pld lady by asking her if he oould come into the front ?’&rd and eat some grass. The old ady toid him he could, and he got down all fours and munched away, keeping his eye on. the kitchen* Presently the servant girl called him, and, thinking to reap the reward of his humility, he resbynded with alacrity. The maid’s message was: “Missus says you can go into the back yard, the grass is taller there.”

Dr. R. V. Pikece, Buffalo, N. Y.: Dear Sir—l hare been taking your‘‘Favorite Prescription” for “female weakness.” Before I had taken it two days I began to feel stronger. I have taken but two thirds of a bottle and believe I am cured. Gratefully, Mrs. H. C. Lovett,, Watseka, 111. At a Methodist conference held at Malone, N. Y., recently, Chaplain McCabe made so strong an appeal in behalf of the church extension enterprise, that ex-Vice President Wheeler —a Presbyterian—gave SI,OOO to it. Mr. McCabe says they have built 410 new churches the past year, and expect to increase the number during the year. He thinks a critical campaign on thte temperance question is going on in Kansas, and he proposes to garrison the state with as many Methodi.-t churches as possible—and stump the state for Governor St. John. Rubbing it Out.
The editor of the Courier, Mr. W. F. Cook, was seized a few mornings ago by a terrible pain in the left shoulder and neck. Having been favorably impressed some time with the virtue of an article recommended for all sudden pains, and especially for rheumatism, we rubbed the offending part, and in less time than we write it, relief came. That article is St. Jacobs Oil.—Canjoharle(N. Y.)Courier. A suit for five thousand dollars damages has been filed against the foreman of a Bt. Louis grand jury for bringing in an indictment against a man for running a lottery. It is a novel case. “I believe St, Jacobs Oil to be the very best remedy known to mankind,’’ says Mr. Rooerts, business manager of this paper.—Milwaukee (Wis.) Sentinel. — ■ It is said that twenty-four thousand Chinese will land at Victoria before the Ist of August, and that work on the main line of the Canada Pacific will be pushed with vigor.

A Tranquil Nervous System
can never be possessed by those whose digestive and assimilative organs are in a state of ohronic disorder. Weak stomachs make weak nerves. To restore vigor and quietude to the latter, the first must bo invigorated and regulated. The ordinary seiative# may tranquili** the nerves for a while, btijt they can never, like Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters, remove the causes of nervous debility. That superb invigorant and corrective of disordered conditions of the alimentary organs has also the effect of imparting tone to th* nerves. The delicate tissues of which they are constituted, when weakened in consequence of impoverishment of t:.o blood, resulting from imperfect digestion and assimilation, draw strength from the fund of vitality developed in the systo it by the Betters; which imparts the required impetus to the nutritive functions of the stomaeb, enriches the circulation and gives tone and regulari.y to the secretive and evaeuative orgazs. rri • Tonics At this season of the year when the greatest and most - rapid changes are going on in the physical condition of our body, it is absolutely necessary to take a reliable strengthening tonic. The trouble heretofore has been to get as a tonic a medicine that was not composed mostly of cheap whiskey doctored with nauseous, disagreeable, and incompatible drugs. Brown’s Iron Bitters is a strictly scientific medicinal preparation, recommended by the medical profession as a complete tonic, com- . posed of Iron—the great Btrengthener, cinchona Dark, and other valuable medicines so combined as to be pleasant to take, thorough in effect, and free from all the objectionable features of other Iron medicines.
