Republican Mass Convenstion.
The Republican voters of Jasper opunty will meet in the Court House in Rensselaer, Ind., on Saturday, ApfitQ, 1882, at 1 o’clock p. M., for the purpose of organizing the County Central Committee Tor the campaign of 1882, fixing the time and manner of holding the County Nominating Convention and to choose delegates to the •* % > State Convention. The Republicans of the several -t townships may on or before the day of the April election choose ope as chairman of the township opmmittee and two committeemen report the names of the same to the secretary of the county committee. On motion, the committeemen so chosen were requested to meet in Rensselaer, on April 8, I§B2. # H. I. Adams, Chairman. I. B. Washburn, Secretary. A miserable grave robbing hyena by the name of Brown, of Nicholasville, Ky., for the sake of notoriety, or perhaps in revenge for some real or fancied slight, recently published in the Washington Post, a bitter, brutal and utterly false attack on the late President Garfield. As has been truly said, this Browm is "next to Guiteau, the vil est wretch in America in human form. The Democratic Sentin el of last week, republishes that letter, and what is worse accept; its statements as truths, and comments upon it as such. In this action the Sentinel lias not only deliberately insulted the feelings, and intelligence of every respectable person who reads that paper, but has placed itself in the same rank with Guiieau and Brown.
, The decent people of Jasper oounty ought to withdrew all support from the G*uiteau Sentinel until its editor makes a full apology, for his brutal attack on the memory of Gaifield. The proprietors of The Republican do not make a practice of publishing matter other than their own production as original matter. We desire to have it understood that the individuals whose names appear at the head of the paper, own it and control its columns, and they do not propose to make themselves responsible for the assertions or ideas of other persons notwithstanding that their predecessors have not all adhered strictly to this rule. Of course we solicit correspondence on all subjects of genei al interest which we will ‘cheerfully publish over whatever name the author may adopt. A\ e also request to be furnished news items Ac. Tne gentlemen placed in nomination by the Republicans, of Marion township, at the convention la • Saturday, are all good men, an ; to > well known to require any B] t oud introduction to the readers 6f The Republican. They ought all to be elected by a good majority, and will be if the voters of the township do their duty. Remember the Mass Convention, at the Court House, in Rensselaer, on April Bth, at 1 o’clock p. m. bet e>ery Republican in Jasper county, whcNpossibly can, come out and assist in perfecting arrangements for carying on a vigorous campaign. Guiteau the crank, who killed the noble minded Garfield, will hang for the crime, and his nane will be an object of execration so long as the history of the American people endures. The editor of the Democratic Sentinel, supposed to be in sound mind, slanders the the memory of the dead President and—“wliat are you going to do about it?” The name of D. H. Yeoman is announced in this paper as an independent candidate for trustee of Marion tewnsliip. It is dpubtless the expectation of the Democracy to nominate Mr. Yeoman at their caucus next Saturday, but the gentleman says he will not accept a nomination at the hands of the Democracy, so there it is. We are told that the faithful will put Jack Phegley in nomination for the office of trustee. Winamac Journal. Supt. Netherton, besides advertising in home papers and by circulars, announces bis West-side Normals in the Monticcdlo Herald and Rensselaer Republican. For two successive years, Prof. Netherton has held the largest and probably the best county normals in the State. These normals are quite handy for White and Jasper counties, and if we may judge the future by the past they will be well worthy of their patror.age.
