Geo. Graul went down to Logansport, Friday, for '‘pleasure”. Mrs. I. B. Washburn is risiting friends in Logansport and Kokomo. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Imes visited relatives in Monon Saturday and Sunday. Frank W. Babcock made a business trip to Indianapolis last week. Do not forget to attend the Republican township convention next Saturday at I r. m. G. W. Clifton returned from Peoria Saturday. He is doing a landoffice business in life insurance. D. Daugherty has gone to Monticello, where he he will remain during the coming summer. Wm. KcCarthy, James Thompson and Ed. Parceil are preparing to build frame dwellings. Mrs. Z. Dwiggins and daughter, of Oxford, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Sears. Gome out to tne caucus next Saturday afternoon, and assist in nominating a good township ticket.
James A. Yeoman is building a dwelling house on the the Chicago road, just outside the corporation line. A. Leopold cut his old b uilding in two pieces snd moved tliem on Van Rensselaer street, where they are being refitted for business rooms.* Sampson Irwin, Sylvester IJaley, and John F. Warner went up to Chicago last week, to be present at the anniversary of Sayit Patrick. The boys have invested in a pair of boxers, and having employed Harry Wilkshire as instructor, some Of them will doubtless be able to cope with Sullivan shortly. There is lumber on the ground for six new houses in Weston’s * addition, and several small residences are in coarse of .construction in Thompson’s addition.
R. S. Dwiggins will lecture at the Christain church next Sunday morning, on the text, “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resorection, for on such the second death hath no power”.
E. H. Tharp has moved his drugstore from the Hemphill building, into the room formerly occupied by .Waterbury as a tailor shop. The room has been entirely rearranged inside, and makes a very fine store room. ‘ — It is reported that the New Albany folks are about to move thoir shops from New Albany to some point north on their line of road. Rensselaer should strain herself to secure them, as withont some manufacturing industries, Vre can never hope to have a town of any consequence, and we can never hope to have anything of the kind without giving a liberal bonus.
The Yan Rensselaer property in the north part of town has just been enclosed with a barb wire fence and will be used as pasture, we are informed. This property lies in the most desirable residence locality in Rensselaer, hot the very high price which is dtotnwnded for it,will,prevent it being improved for years to come.
