GLEANINGS.
BY IROQUOIS.
Joseph Clark is improving his property in Thompson’s addition, by building a stable and a fence. Lemuel Casey, of Barkley townis very sick of typhoid pneumonia. “Grape Island” was the happy recipient of the Democratic nomi nation for assessor of Union town ship last Saturday. He treated all around to the cigars, which, by the way, is a vast- improvement over the old-fashioned Democratic treat. Happier still will David be if his nomination does not end as did his treat—in smoke. The other man may get the most votes. The town board does not sit with closed doors. There is no star chamber about it. Regular meetings the first Monday night of each month in F. W. Babcock’s office. Special meetings when the board deem them necessary, which any one interested may learn by referring to the record or by enquiring of any member of the board. McCoy is building the nobbiest barn in Rensselaer. It would not suit Tom if it were not so. Ras Peacock’s wife andyounge3 child are very sick. Mr. Stockton, of Tippecanoe county, is improving his farm in Barkley township and proposes to move onto it in the near future. Do not discourage men from engaging in business here. You do not know whether any business is overdone or not. Let them come and take the chances with the rest of us in the race for bread and butter.
There is quite a brisk demand for town property in ' Rensselaer. Persons er.quiring are not speculators but those who wish to erect business or dwelling houses. Aaron Holman, of Hanging Grove, wants to find a house in town that he can occupy. Jackson Phegley is the prospective candidate of the Democracy for trustee of Marion township, and Henry Fisher for road superintendent, and of course James Welsh would like to succeed himself as assessor. Keener township has a large list of candidates for office. Lemuel Shortridge and D. E. Faircliild are longing for the ma ntle of C. H. Price to fall upon them, Dr. Antrim would be pleased to succeed J. T. Abbett, and Dr. Robbins thinks he would like to drop the “Dr.” and take up the “Hon.”
