Pnrsuant to published call the central committee of the National Greenback party 6f Jasper county met at the court house, in Rensselaer, on Saturday, January 28,1882, at 2 o’clock p. m. Meeting was called to order and its object stated by S. W. Ritchey, chairman. J. A. Burnham was elected secretary pro tern., in the absence 'of E. Ralph secretary. Ezra 0. Nowels, George Besse, Wm. State nominating covention, at In* dianapolis, on February 22, 1882. Committee reported and the fol lowing were appointed: Ebenezer Peregrine, David McCay, Lorenzo Tinkham, James W. McCleary, David H. Yeoipan, Geo. Haven, J. A. Burnham, Samuel Ritchey, Jonathan Pancoast, Tlios. M. Jones, A. Stinson, J. A. Patton, i Basil Hunt, James Orcutt, j AY. Harrington. 1 The meeting then determined to hold the county nominating coni vention on the second Saturday in August, 1882,/at Rensselaer ; that 1 the basis of representation shall be | three delegates ay»,rge from each j township and onemtm each town; that each township and town shall be entitled to one delegate for each five votes cast for AVeaver at the last election, and the several townships shall hold elections of delegates to the county nominating coni vention on the second Saturday of July, 1882. Hoffman, for bastardy at Bloomington 111.,' Hoffman was pastor of the M. E church in Rensselaer several years ago, and we understand charges of •Ml similar character w<re made against him here. The jury which sat on his'case at Bloom it gton, returned a verdict of guilty.
Mr. Palmar F. Dale, living near Savannah, Ga., says: ‘‘Myself ami family have always, since living in this locality, been troubled more or less with malarial disorders. Scoville filed his motion for n new trial in the Guiteau case Saturday. Jle alleges several errors; in the rulings of the court, 'and also that the jury had access to the newspapers during the progress of ! the trial. The grounds of the moi tion are very unsubstantial, and there is no probability that it will be granted. Colonel Corkhill says he “will smash the motion so dead that no living man will speak of | it.”
