Thd pobli*h«Fß of The KepubliCax hare given a great deal of §p*ot, and a greater proportionate amount of labor, to school matters during the last three weeks, —reports of institutes, rolls of honor, Ae. This has been done, not for the purpose of “filling up” nor yet because it was believed that reading of that kind would add greatly to the interest of the paper; but rather in the hope, which we believe well founded, that in so doing the cause of public education throughout the county might be benefited.
The act of the General Assembly of Indiana, “ establishing a State Board of Health” provides that the Board of County Commissioners the Mayor and common council of incorporated cities, and the board of trustees of any town, the board of health of county, city town respectively, “ except where a regular constituted Board of Health by ordinance of such cijty now exists, or may hereafter be created," shall constitute the Board of Health of suoh county, city town respectively. The act also provides that such boards shall craplete their organization by electing annually, in the month of January, a Secretary, who shall be a physician, and such secretary shall be the Health Officer of such town, city or county, respectively. As it is essential for the harmonious working of the machinery to be called into action by the law mentioned, that all the boards of heahh in the State should organize for work at,the same time, ■o that such can be prosecuted without hindrance or delay, we request and suggest that the various boards of commissioners, city council and board of trustees organize by the election of a secretary, in conformity with the law, upon Mbnday, January 2, 1882, ana that you immediately thereafter report the name and post office address of such secretary to this department on the blank form herewith sent you. If this work is done throughout the State upon the same day, it will greatly facilitate matters

Teachers' Institute.
Report of Teachers Institute held at the Walker School-house,Walker Tp., Jasper Co., Ind., Dec., 17.1881: Institute commenced at 10 ax. The president being absent, the vice president occupied the chair. Roll was then called to which all the teachers responded, with one exception- Programme of exercises was then read by the secretary .followed by the appointment of critics, and a committee on programme. Teachers then proceeded to dispose •of their subjects, which they did in an interesting manner. The question:“Resolved, that teachers should be paid according to their grade of license," aroused quite an interesting discussion. Four teachers were in favor of being paid according to their success, and two in favor of being paid according to their grade of license in addition to their success. The vice-president decided in favor of the affirmative. After reading of monthly reports by teachers, came the report of the committee on programme, which is as follows: How and when teach the rules of spelling: paper by J. F. Antrim. Bains:- ulasses, causes and effects, explanation: by W. A. Churchill. Of what use is

Pestalozzi- His life and influence: paper by G. B. Antrim. The three objects of the recitation: by Mary Bouk. The writing hour: paper by Millie Bouk; and reading of minutes by secretary. Institute adjourned to meet on the third Sat. of Jan., 1882, at the Hershman Sehool-house, Walker Tp., Jasper Co., Ind. The teachers of Walker & are looking forward to the approaching “Teachers Association*’ with great interest as they expect to have their minds refreshed with useful knowledge and return to their schools happier and wiser teachers.
