Remington Items.
Dear Kepcblicax:—l’erhtps you have forgotten that vou hail ft oorresjion'dciit at Remington. It lias lieen so long since we wrote that we had almost forgotten it ourself; luit the fact is. there is so little to write about that would he of general interest that we hate to undertake it. It is something like trying to make bricks without straw. But we will try and tell the little there is to relate without further preamble. The case of Oppcy vs. Klipore was tried at Fowler last week ’ Elmore was slued 310 and 'costs for the plea sure of rapping Oppey over the head. Dear enough. Remington is expecting a valuable addition to her business interests. Col. liridgcland, late consul at the port of Havre, France, talks of erecting an oil mill. He is expected here again the lirst of January to make final arrangements. Corn is pouring into>town as fast as teani3 can move. The crop was good both as to quantity and quality. * I*. B. Lyon X Co. are closing out their stock of goods. It is Mr Lyon’s intention to emigrate to Dakota as soon as he can strange his business affairs here. We are all sorry to have them go from among us. and while we wish them all possible good luck, they may uct be quite successful enough to give Remington the go-by entirely. Eli Johnson, of New York, lectured here last Thursdnv evening, owing to a failure to get transportation from Reynolds here. Mr. Johnson did uoicometo time, not arriving until 9 r. M. There was quite a good audience waiting patiently for the arrival of the train, and all felt well repaid, as Mr. Johnson is a pleasant, forcible and logical speaker. We hope the cause of temperance will lie revived in our midst, as there is great and pressing need of revival . Sam Selomon and family took their departure last Tuesday for Chicago, en route for the far west. They left us not entirely without hope, as they expect to return iu a few years. If we knew how to spell lior D ime, we would put it down. The Nixkumaronsters for whatever they call themseives) gave another hop at Exchange Hall lastd&turduy evening. Under the able management of Tkiss Bookkeeper Wells, It was a decided success. You Rensselaer people must not put on too many nirs because you have no vacant bdusea.
