In my last the types madn me say there wer«- 206 bones including the teeth. It shonld have be-*n excluding the teeth, and some irregular forniatians, termed bones by sume. Those who use Wqson’x Auatomy may say there are 246 bones, but that is not correct according to later authorities. The skeleton is divined into the spinal column or back bone, the skull, thorax, pelvis, a,nd the superior anl inferior extrem. ilies. The spine is a flexuous column formed of twenty-six bones termed vertebrae; it supports the head aud protects the spinal cord. , . . The skull is divided the /uranium and face. lhe cranium is composed o eight bones forming a cavity Inclosing the b;an, The face is composed of fourteen bones. "v. The thorax or ch«st is Hre largest cavity n 1 ceutains toe pi inc pal organs of respiration, and circulation, the lungs, heart, and portions of the larger blood vessels. The pelvis is the cavity foimed by four bones. It is situated jit the lower portion of the spine, which it supports, .and protects organs of importance ’.o the human economy. The counecti -ns of the bonei at various paints are called articulations or.joints. The joints are termed immoveable when the margins of the bo tic J are closely connected together, as fii the cranium, and do not admit of motion. In movable joints the exti•.nines ot the bones are generally enarged aud covered Ly a firm, elastic, and flexible substance called cartilage. The oinrs are bel t together by string bands of fibrous tissue called ligaments, and lined bv a membrane which secretes a fluid callsynovia or joint-water. In dislocations of joints the injury is almost invariably that of the ligiaxmts, some of which are torn apart or from their at iiciiments ro the bones.
The same is true in sprains, and as the ligameuta are uot so well supplied with blood vessels, as the bones, their restoration is very slow, and in many persons the injury is permanent. The ankle joints are the most liable to sprain. it requires more time for a dislocated, or severely sprained ankle to recover than lor a broken boue. Perf-ci q-net is the best treatment for su h injiuies, thus gning nutuiean opportunity t > heal i lie injure I tissues. The preeminent success of Campbell & Farden lies in the facts of their representing goods just as they are, treating all customers alike, and selling on a reasonable margin. Try them and be convinced of the truth of the above statements.
