Chicago, June 7.—The eighth aunual cuhvcntlon •of the millers’ national association met to-day at the (\rand Pacific hotel, in secret session, and transacted important business. The Cochran patent cases, representing claims for damages to the amount o(-$6,000,000 against the members pf thy association, were settled, by compromise, fne terms of which are-pri-vate. It was stipulated that no. niillers in the counUy except those who are members of the association shall profit by the settlement, and that hereafter nh miUers shall be admitted to membership except on a majority vote of the »*xecMttve committee. Tn thu matter of the Duechfield patent, on account of which the suits have been bfcgun in Minnesota again* sixty milling, firms, the convention decided to stand all the expenses for defending the suits.
