County Board of Education
The County Board of Education met pursuant to adjournment at the court house, in Rensselaer, Monday, June 6th, 1881. Board called to order by the President, and upon call of roll by the Secretary, the following members responded to their names: Nelson Anderson, Hanging Grove; I. J. Porter, Marion ; George Guild, Keener; Lewis Rich, of Wheatfield;'A- J. Yeoman, of Jordan; 8. R. Nichols, of Barkley ; George Stalbaum, of Walker; Charles Loshbaugh, of Milroy ; F. M. Jones, of Kankakee ;IV- $■ Stevens, of Gillam; Willmm Cxxrnef, of Union ; William Henkle, of Carpenter; L. Strong, of Newton; M. F. Chilcote, of Rensselaer.
Report of committee appointed at ths May meeting to consider the expediency of publishing a manual for the schools of Jasper county was submitted, the committee recommending the publication of said manual. On motion the report was adopted and a committee of five appointed to have charge of preparation and publication of the manual, the committee being as follows : A. J. Yeoman, L. Strong, S. R. Nichols, L J. Porter and D. B. Nowels. On motion, it was decided to.limit the cost of the manual to fifty dollars and that one thousand copies be .printed. NEW BUSINESS. A J. Yeoman submitted the following resolution. Whereas, The trustworthiness, competency and skill of the laborer in all fields of industry, determine aril fegtfbte the compensation received, as it justly should; and, Whereas, The teachers in the common schools of this county receive as a rule, about the same price per day for their services, regardless of their competency or the efficiency of their work; therefore be it »
Resolved, That teachers holding a six months’ grade of license receive not to exceed SI.OO per day for teaching; that those holding twelve months’ grade receive not to exceed $1.75 per day ; that those holdup eighteen months’ grade receive not to exceed $2.50 per day.
