From Remington.
. .. •’j . Diab Rbpublican:—After an interval of a week or two we afeain attempt a letter, feeling that Remington most not be toft out ifi’the cold altogether. We feel humiliated and unworthy because we have suffered tWb licensed doggeries to be started up in our town. As tor as we arw concerned personally we would not give a nickel for the best residence in Remington, and feel compelled to stay here, for of all place# over which the angels must-weep n is certainly over a little village with the vices of a great city with hone of its grand advantagee tq be placed in the balance against the evil. And evil will follow in the wake of these two saloons as surely as effect; follows cause or as night follows; day. Our people are hoping much for the projected railroad from'the coal regions to Chicago ot some point that connects directly . with that city. Not having attended the meeting last Saturday we cannot give a synopsis of the proceedings, but have been told that the footing of all present was enthusiastically in favor of the road. Miss M. P. Bolles attended commencement exercises at Bloomington University last week, the guest of Mrs. Rawles, formerly of-this place. Miss Bolles expects to visit friends in Hanover, before < her return. • ■ .
Mrs. A. A. Stearns started last week for a three months visit among friends and relatives in Maswhusetts and Vermont. Mrs. Richardson, of Delphi, is visiting her brother, Wm. ' Draper and his family. z . ' The junior member of the firm of S. C. Maxwell and son is a fine looking youth, and may ip ■ time make a good physician. ' The concert which was to have been given in the M. E. Church on the evening of Children’s ’J>ay, failed io materialize, owing to want of united effort. Some reerbktioh or something of special interest should be gotten up for th e little ones, as it gives them mors iateriit in the Sabbath school. Iftee eannot get up a concert why not /have all the schools unite and gi vefjxem all a picnic, with songs and speeches as well as victuals, and let the little people have one grand, good time, if it does make s little herd work for the older ones? Must stop. Thbke-Twwty-Nisz.
