—The famous case, the application of Reynolds, of Monticello, a citizen (?) of ihe town of Rensselaer and the county of Jasper, is now in the forge of the Newton Circuit Court. F. W. Babcock and ’John Ash, attorneys plead-the interests of Jasper county, while lawyers Wallace and Gregory, of 'Montieello, will plead in siren-like accents for the establishment in our midst of a place wheke the tippler may sip the inebriating cup and extract, therefrom the essence of sod corn in less quantities tnan a quart ata time. We await the edict of the court. The rains Saturday night and Sunday caused the ice in the river, above the bridge to brean and te gorge at, and below that structure. It presented a picturesque appearance floating down the stream, and piling up in every conceivble shape as it accumulated above the bridge. Early in the morning the bridge and sidewalks were line-i with our citizens awaiting the breaking up and floating away of the gorged toe. It was expected that when thia occurred the bridge would be swept away, i nt by the exertions of the town marshall and several assistants, in cutting away the ice, and opening a passage, tbig was avoided. AH day, througn the storm, protected by umbrellas, overcoat* and oil cloths, people stood, waiting for the breaking of the gorge which occurred about 4 o'clock, p. m. when the whole body of ice moved dowa the river, plunging, and entting it* way through fences, buildings and evavjHiing in it* course. Striking the bridgp, A'jtort of on* of th* pier* waa carried awny.bux no« other damage was don*. There great quantities of ice gorged at ditocaat places above th* mill dam, from which fbrth«r injury to th* bridg* ia apprehended when a thaw ont takes place. Th* bjgji water* drove on* or two fomilies from th*ir dwellings.
