Is it Pork, or What?
In a certain district in London occupied by English and Irish the death rate is forty-three per one thousand, while in another district inhabited entirely by the Hebrews, the rate is twenty per one thousand. Now it is an interesting question If pork has not much to do with the greater death rate in the English and Irish quarter. The Jews, it wul be remembered, do not make use of pork. The statistics are presented by Dr. 8. Gibbon, ihedical officer of health for the Holbom district, He says that the Hebrews of the metropolis are notoriously exempt from tubercular and scrofulous complaints; that one very rarely meets a ease of consumption among them. Another medical officer of one of the large schools remarks that the children of the Israelites do not die in anything like the same ratio that the Gentile children do. * v There are 58 children in foe Lutheran Orphans home at Richmond, Ind. The large and beautiful property is free from debt.
