Butler county, Ky., has had a colored teachers* institute. Not a white person fiied in Charlotte, N. C. during August. The colored people have started a newspaper at Ooltrmbus, Miss. Mississippi has had twenty six Governors, of whom twenty-two were lawyers. The ice factory at Waco, Tex., manufactured five tons of ice daily during the summer. Dulleness prevails in Memphis (Tenn.), police circles. The city was never so orderly before. - > ■■

There aro 500 cases of break-bone fever in Savannah, 680 in Augusta and 2,000 in Charleston. „ . • Miss Laura Luna was married in Lincoln county, Tenn., at the age of 12 years and 4 mouths. The city of Waco, Tex., supports seven public schools—four for white and three tor colored pupils. The Montgomery Advertiser predicts only one-third of the usual y;eld of cotton in tuat part of Alabama. Mrs. Mary Chandler died at Carrollton, 1 Ga., at the age of 75 years. She had been a member of the Baptist Church for,uftyseven years. The Little Rock Democrat says that the majority against the constitutional amendment (repudiation) in Arkansas wilt be between 6,000 and 10,000. ; ' • . *’ i The list of democratic nominations for congressmen from Texas is ceigpteted. The five democrats at present in Congress from that state are renominated.

The prohibitionists of Georgia have held a state convention, in which they expressed the opinion that at present there is no room for a separate political party devoted to temperance reform. Mrs Nancy Register, of Hawkinsville, Ga., who is in her 92d year, used specta cles from her 45th ypar until about twenty years ago, since which.time she has been able to read and do sewing without theii aid. The town election at Aikeo, 8. C., re •suited in a compromise between the demo crats and republicans, the wardens elected being equally divided between the two parties. Of the ttyree republicans elected two were negroes. One of the victims of the recent stage robbery near Mammoth Cave was R. H. RewnUee, of Lebanon, Ky , who was born in Edmonson county, and who had been visiting the place of his birth for the first time in fifty-three years. Since the sale of liquor was nrohibifed in Carrollton, Ga, five years ago, the an nual trade of that place fans incteaspd from *200,000 to *500,000, and it ip said that there is not one merchant of the 30 in that town who would not vote against the whisky traffic on purely business principles.

A census enumerator in Bradford county, Va., traveled nearly two days without seeing % pair of shoes on man or woman. An enumerator in Dinwiddle coiinty enumerated two persons, in each of which instances he found them the solo oocnpantfl of their residences, and found them alone and dead. In Mississippi during the year ending December 31,1870, there were 201 conviction for murder, Of this number thirty, nine were executed by hanging, while 162 were punished by imprisonment for life in the Penitentiary. During the same time there were 121 ccnvictions for the crime of manslaughter, punished by imprisonment in the penitentiary for terms varying from two to fifty years. The heirs of the late William B Keene, M. D., of Georgetown, have braught ifoit against Harvey Glass, administrator of his Estate, for *50,000. They claim that the money was paid to the wrong perpun, and, having been spent, that the administrator is responsible for it. The defense is that the money was paid .by order ,of court, and that the court is bound to protect the administrator in acting according to its decree.
