Kenton. —A little too much of the ardent was taken by some of our boys last Saturday at Delphi. —Those fine apples presented to us at the fair last week by Capt. Redtnoud were immense —Mrs. J. 8. Wlgmore of Monticello attended our fair and visited Rensselaer friends last wevk. —Mrs. Mattie Griswold of Valparaiso smiled upon Rensselaer friends a few days during the fair. —Rev. Smith of the Presbyterian church preached his farewell sermon at tiiat church last Sundae. —Wm. Bennet of Barkley township has a bran new boy. That was as high, we suppose, as he had /earned to count. —Patriotism of the Democracy—On Monday of this week two Inown supporters of Hancock and English were seen by several parties to pull down the btara and Stripes, tear them to shreds and fling them in the dust. —Charley Johnson and J. M. Dickenson, both of Fowler, attended our fair last wee*, Mr, Johnson was judge of our poultry department. Charley has gained the reputation of being one of the best judges of chicks in tbs west. —The poor man of Jasper county whetber Republicans or Democrats, can vot# for Dr. Alter for treasurer because be visited them day and night when they were sici: pay or no pay. He was and is the poor man’s friend.
—Capt, Wm. Taylor df Lafayette, was hers some time ago; he said John W. Powell was one of the very best men in his battery. And was always ready for duty and never gambled. No soldier oould ask a higher compliment. fl —We were pleasantly entertained last Monday night by a serenade fiom the Delphi band in front of our office. This baud has attained a high degree of excellence in the use of their instruments. Their fame precedes them wherever they go. —John Lathrope, leader of the Delphi Band visited the Republican office Tuesday. Johnnie is candidate for treasurer of Carroll county and will make hard work for his Democratic competitor. Johnnie is a gentleman in every sense of the word and deserves the recognition of his people in their support for the office he seefa. —The display of stoves, and agricultural implements made at the fair by our enterprising merchant, Norman Warner seemed to attract a big share of attention from attendants of the fair- It was aßpleudidsbow and give evidence of the good taste of Mr. Warner and of his en'erpriM In the way of making our fklna suoooss and of always keeping on band such goods as will demand and are worthy the patronage of the people. v

She called at this office to see her old teacher, the editor. Mr. Davisson had four sous in the old 9th regiment, three of whom fell in the service. He looked with much feeling on the tattered banner under which his sons marched to battle. * —Look out for McEwens estimate of the crowds at Rallies of Monday and Tuesday.
