The Green backers of the First district of Connecticut have nominated George W. Hewitt for Congress. The Republicans of the Fourteenth Pennsylvania district, have nominated Samuel F. Barr for congress. The greater part of Viasage, a large villagela the Canton of Vallais, of Switzerland, has been destroyed by- fits. The Republicans of the Binghampten, New York district has nominated Jeremiah Dwight for congress on the 263 d ballot Saturday night there was a terrific storm between Dubuque and Clinton, lowa, which did much damage to farms and railroad property. The cashier of the treasury is shipprng to different parts of the country, principally south and west, about $25,000 in fractional silver daily. James H. Reese, real estate agent and dealer, first city surveyor of Chicago, and one ot the oldest and best known citizens, died September 20, aged 07. Tbe' Indiana state convention of the Y. M. C.
