Charles B. Byars, of Frankfort, Indiana, » single man,aged twenty-eight,was found dead this morning in an old out*table. He has of lste been under the influence oi , whisky continuously. Charley once held' a position as deputy county cleik. Death was from exposure. A shooting match for a beef was beingheld at the farm-house of a Mr. at Maxville, Greene county, When a young man by the name of Newton shot a little girl .who passed in front of his aim, the riflo ball penetrating her bowels, killing her almost instantly. At the county fair, in progress near Crawfordsville, a rang of pickpockets surrounded Mrs. Will McLean and snatched her tine rold watch. She, being a large, muscular lady, held fast to Ihe leader of the mob and procured his arrest. The watch was not recovered. * The case of Samuel Perkins, who was murdered at the Union depot, Vincennes, was disposed of by the Coroner, who rendered a verdict that deceased came to his death by the hand ot H. Harris, a fakir from Pittsburg, who was the last person seen with him. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Harris. *
A circus elephant being transported over one of the Indiana railroads, the other day, in a car next to the tender, became thirsty, and exhausted the locomotive's supply, compelling the engineer to stop and fill up again. Tne engineer did not submit to late until the elephant had opened his trunk and fired several bucketsfull of water at him. The two-story brick building owned by Scroggins and Miles, at Brooklyn, Morgan county, and being fitted up by them ' for a saloon, was blown up with powder \ and completely wrecked. One tido and end were completely blowb down, tod the remaining wails were taken down next day. Loss estimated at SI,OOO. This was the second attemptio opena licensed saloon in town, against which there is a strong feeling.
