Grand Rally at Fowler.
\ We had the pleasure to attend the Republican rally at Fowler last Monday. It was indeed a grand day for the Republican party. The people of Fowler and Benton county never do things by halves. As early as ten o'clock the streets were thronged with teams and the sidewalks with people from the country, and citizens of the town all eager to bear of Garfield, Porter and Glory.
It bad been annonneed that Por. ter would be there, bat a dispatch late Saturday evening atated that he coaid not be present. Bat Mark L. D«Motte and Major John W, Gordon, Oliver T. Morton, the son of the great war governor and Gen. Pitkin, of Louisiana, werejthere a grand galaxy, exponent of pure Re publican principles. Mr. De Motte led off at 2 o’clock P. M. in an eloquent speech which was listened to with inteneo interest by a crowd o* more than fifteen hnndred people* until a black cloud rising in the West dispersed the multitude. At that time the train from Indianapolis arrrvrd bearing the other speakers mentioned. Thie clouds having passed by, Major Gordon spoke more than an boar, from the front of the Summit House to a latge audienoe gathered in the street. Undo Charley Davis with the Kentlsnd' Glee Club wsa there and favored the people with some lively campaign songs. Uncle Charley

The brass bands of ’Oxford and Fowler wan on band and at intervals enlivened the occasion with some fine music. With the men bars of the Fowler band and ita history we are acquainted and we were agreeably anrpriaed at tbe rapid progress this band bad made. In our estimation, it eompares favorably with the best bands that we have ever listened to. In the evening, speeches were delivered to an appreciative audience by Oliver T. Morton and General Pitkin. Tbe demousi ration at Fowler gives evidence that the Repot* I'leans of Benton are alive to the importance of the situation and de lermined to do their part for the success of the Repnbiican ticket.
