—A lick-Spitler who signs himself ‘‘A Republican," sent a communication to the last issue of the Democratic Sentinel, from which we quote: “The statement made in the Rensselaerßepublican this week, that ‘Mr. Blshepp will not be recognised as the nominee of the Republican party’ is unauthorised by the party. The editor has uo right to make such e positive statement without some authorized action on the part of the messes of the Republican party, in convention or otherwise.” We admit that the “statement" may appear presnmptioua and hasty, bat Mr. 8. exhibits much less wisdom in peddling Republican grievances through the columns of the opposition paper. It occurs to us that M A Repblican” who blows hot and ooM far the Democracy is not worthy of the name and oogbt not to assume the title- Mr. 8. should also remember that he Is not the Republican party, aad never will be held responsible for Ms actions. We repeat that Mr. Bistopp is not reoognlaed by the Republicans of ibis Jadicial district as the authorised nominee for the office of prosecuting attorney .and those who dalm that ha is are simply giving aid aad incoaragement to the Democratic aptrant for that position.

REPUBLICAN COUNTY CONVENTION AND THE CANDIDATES.
Pursuant to e%ll an Immense assembly of sul wart Republicans convened st the court bouse last Saturday, to nominate county officers to be voted for at the October election, and the work was done successful ly. Every township was fully rep. resented by the -regularly chosen delegates and by many citizens, who feel a deep interest in the success of the Republican county ticket. THE NOMINEES. Dr. Alter, the successful candidate for the nomimation of treasurer, has well merited the position, and judging the future by the past l»is earnest offbrts will not only secure his own election but add much to the strength of the whole ticket. Having been a resident of Jasper connty for many years be is well and favorably known, and many of the opposing party will doubless give him a cordial support. Johu W. Powell, the Republican candidate for sheriff, having served his country faithfully and acceptably In the army, manifested tbe best qualities ns a neighbor and citizen, and discharged every known duty as a stalwart Republican, is justly entitled to the position he seeks and the Indication* are that he will more than carry the strength of his party. Carpenter township prom* ises to couae up nearly solid for him. Norman Warner, the candidate for re-election to tbe office of coroner, f* certain to “get there.” His populaiity as a citizen and business man makes his election doubly sure. Lewis W. Alter, who has served one term ns surveyor, seems to possess ail tbe necessary qualifications to discharge the duties of his office, and he will be elected by a ‘‘booming" majority. Gen. W. Burk is peculiarly fitted to fill the office of commissioner, and of course he will become Mr. Parkieou’s successor.

grcssional District for Congress and fought Hon. Morgan WVir the Democrat nominee with great-bit-terness throughout and to the close, of the campaign. It may be very desirable to defeat, a Republican candidate for congress, bet it is not desirable to do so at the expense of all principles and by . tricks only practiced by demagogues and political trimmers. It is clearly evident that Mr. Skinner intends to deceive either Ike Greenback or the Democratic party, bat before be does so the*c parties will know whether he sepporm Mr. Weaver For President and eiidorsifs the platform of that party, or whether he will support the nominees of the National Democratic aud Slate conventions. We know whereof we speak when we assure him and his friends that the Dem ooracy us this country and hundreds of Democrats in the district will support no man whose course is calculated to disoigaaise and weaken the party, simply to gratify personal ambition. We do not pretend to speak for the members of the Greenback 4)aUyia-tnU-county, but judging from interviews with their leading men he will find himself mistaken if he expects thtir support while he opposes their.candidate for the Presidency.—Winamao Democrat.
