COMMISSIONERS’ COURT.

Contract Let for Steam Heating Plant at Jail. The county commissioners nre in regular session this week. Monday was taken up with the sa loon application case of John F. Kel ley. He was met with a blanket remonstrance. Attorneys appeared for both sides and after the day was consumed in hearing the evidence the case was continued until next Saturday, for final evidence. If this remonstrance is held good it will eventually do away with ail saloons in Remington. John Eger was granted the contract for furnishing groceries for the poor farm for tfie next quarter at $69; Geo. E Murray for dry goods, clothing and shoes at $17.17; B. Forsythe for mittens and underwear at $1.95. E. J. Murray was awarded the contract for a steam heating apparatus at the jail at $586. The bids were as follows: Linton & Graff 874 oo Lane Pike Co 593 00 Drexel Plumbing & Heating C 0.... 547 00 The Drexel bid was the lowest, but was rejected, as no bond had been filed with the bid. Bids for medical attendance at the poor farm and jail for the next year were filed as follows: Dr. I. M. Washburn 40 oo Dr. E. C. English to 00 Dr. A. J. Miller 50 00 Dr. Kressler 33 50 8. B. Moffitt et al, petition for ditch. The Monon railway, John J. Lawler, Delos Thompson & John J. Lawler, and H. 0. Harris each filed amended remonstrances and bonds. Thomas H. McCullough, Michael H. Robinson and John Ryan appointed reviewers. The matter of cleaning the Marble lateral of the Wheatfield ditch was continued.

Joseph Nissius et al, petition for ditch in White and Jasper counties. Viewers directed to meet the White county viewers at Monticello on March 28. 1 G. O. Btemble et al, petition for cleaning Wheatfield ditch. Ordered cleaned. The part of the lateral south of the U. & E. I. railway track to be cleaned with scraper and the remainder with dPedge. A. McCoy et al, petition for ditch. Auditor directed to sell same and viewers to make final report. Robert 8. Drake et al presented a petition for a free gravel road In Hanging Grove township. James O. Thrawls was appointed engineer, and B. D. Comer and John A. Lamborn viewers to prepare plans and specifications for the road, they to make their report on or before April Ist. This is the proposed road for which an election was held, but which had to be abandoned on account of the low estimate for the work The commissioners are still in session as we go to press.
