PARR PRATTLE.
The little baby which was being reared by Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Elder died Monday morning at 5 o’clock. It was buried at Rensselaer yesterday. Taylor Wood comes down to the barber shop and gets shaved. He says the baby pulls his beard. John W. Price will soon have his new house completed. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond, of Morocco, are visiting their daughter, Mrs. Jess Sheffer. If you want Christmas toys go to Judy & Wood’s. They have a fine line of all kinds of toys. Mrs. D. E. Hudson, who has been sick for some time, is improving nicely and is able to be up some at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. Jnoi. Shroyer and Mr. and MrSj Frank Shroyer, of Blackford, visited Ed Price and wife Sunday. W. L. Wood made a flying trip to Goodland and Wolcott Monday. I guess Jess thought he would change his job so the girls would not bother him so much. Girls you ought to be ashamed of yoursglves. Mrs. John Parker and son Earl, of Gifford, visited her daughter, Mrs. Taylor Wood, Sunday. Jas. K. Garriott, who has been visiting in Jackson county, returned Tuesday. Wm. Gilmore and Earnest Stibbe drove some cattle over to Goodland for J. L. Babcock Monday. Earnest of course was pretty well tied up when he got back. I guess Gilmore’s coflee must have been pretty strong. Go to Judy & Wood if you want blacksmithing done, as they have a first class smith. Ocie Wood, Ed Moon and sister, Miss Wordon, of Rensselaer, went out to take a buggy ride Sunday and got mired down. Girls you must stay on good roads next time.

Frye, one of the oldest residents of Virginia, died recently and was buried, according to his wish, in a walnut coffin made with his own hands from an old tree on his farm. Guthrie, O. T., has a 15-year-old lawyer. His name is Frank H. Burford and he was recently admitted to practice, though he has not yet been graduated from the Guthrie High school. A Washington friend of Admiral Dewey says the great sailor is a splendid wit and story teller. He can also spin a yarn of his own experience which would rival the wildest fiction. John Ruskln has not had his photograph taken for 30 years, abd John Hare has allowed himself to be caught by the camera once only. This was at the express desire of Queen Victoria. General Julio Rengifo, for many years secretary and charge d'affaires of the Colombian legation in Washington, who is on leave in his native country, has been appointed minister of the treasury. William Wither Bramston Beach is regarded as a comparatively young man to occupy the position of “father of the house of commons,” to which he succeeded on the death of the late Sir John Mowbray, for he is only 72. Albert C. Hopkins, who, during the Messiah craze at Rosebud and Pine Ridge agencies in 1890, attained notoriety by appearing among the excited Sioux and announcing himself their Messiah, has been adjudged insane. Governor Powers of Maine, who owns timber lands in the North Woods, was aßkeA by a Bangor Commercial man the other day if he thought the pulp business was destroying the Maine forests and promptly answered: “No. That’s my answer to you—No! Let them cut all they want.”

Not one drop of Intoxicating liquor Is allowed to be sold at any of the military camps of Canada. A club is now being formed in Paris the members of which swear never to shake hands with any one unless wear* ing gloves. Fifteen years ago native Christians could rarely find employment in India. Now they are preferred by contractors because they do more and better work than the heathen. In honor of the four hundredth an* niversary of the discovery of Brazil in May. 1900, there will shortly be a special issue of stamps as follows: Discovery of Brazil, 100 reis; independence, 200 reis; abolition, 500 reis; republic, 700 reis. The earldom of Dartmouth is the latest peerage to be threatened with a “claimant.” The “rightful heir” is to be found, it seems, in William Legge, an employee of the Capital Planing works, Ottawa, who has served his apprenticeship to a gardener. A newly married couple in Portland, Me., who are both deaf and are trying housekeeping without a servant, have devised an ingenious substitute for a doorbell. When a caller presses the electric button, all the lights in the house flash up and his presence is made known.
