Then,, as now, the entire country was listen" ing to the pleasant hum of business - prosperity. Then, as now, from a Republioan point of view, defeat - seemed impossible; but how possible it seemed eleotion night when the wires told the story of how the over*confident Republican army had beets overthrown by the gum-boot polioy off democracy. Experience is the onlytrue guide to the future. Republicans have the votes, but they don’t count unless they are placed in the ballot box. The supreme court decided that shade trees in front of a man’s residence although looated on public property, belong to him. The case in whloh the deoision was one in which a property owner sued a telephone oompany for cutting off the limbs of his trees. The decision is of interest to all property holders and corpora* tions. The law, however, holds that a property owner who has trees grow* ing along the highway must not allow limbs and branohes to grow until they interfere with the travel of pe* destrains or vehicles.
