FAIR OAKS.
John Prey and family have moved to The M. E. ladies cleared about $9 25 from their ice cream and peanut social. Emory Cox expects to move back to town as soon as he can rent a house. Bom, to Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Holly, at Beaver City, Aug. 12th, a son Twenty tickets were sold at this place for the Chicago excursion last Sunday. Rev. Allen preached at the M. E. church last Saturday. The C. & E. I. will run an excursion to Michigan City next Thursday, Aug. 28th. Only $1 round trip from Fair Oaks. Train leaves 8:42 a. m. A good people from here are attending the carnival at Rensselaer this week. Eighteen tickets were sold to Water Valley last Saturday on account of the Woodmen’s picnic. All report a pleasant * time and plenty to eat. Mrs. Scott Herrington, of DeMotte, is visiting her parents, Thomas Fry and wife and other relatives this week. Mr. and Mrs. Gundy spent Sunday with friends at Hammond. Frank Brady and Jennfe Cottingham were the guests of friends in Chicago over Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Kight went to Lake Village last Sunday to see his mother, who is reported quite sick. Milt Gundy took in sights at Niagara Falls last week and reports an enjoyable time. O. Sorenson and Will McKean, of Chica go, visited Dr. and Mrs. Proudly on Sunday, returning home in the evening. Several couple tripped the light fantastic at the park last Saturday night until a late hour. Felix Erwin and wife attended the assembly at Remington last Saturday and Sunday and alto visited friends. Operator Zimmerman is attending the carnival and visiting his parents at Rensselaer this week. N. Littlefield just lately returned from a business trip up in the Dakotas. R, H. Dodge returned last week from a two weeks’ stay at Caldwell, Kans. He has a good farm near that place and will move his family there next month to remain permanently. Mike Shehan. the Monon yard-master, at Lafayette, is taking a two Peeks’ vacation, and he with his wife and daughter Bula are spending the time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kight. The former’s niece, Miss Nellie Shehan. is also here with them. We will venture to say that Wm. Shoup’s water melon patch near town will not be disturbed again this year, at least by a certain individual who recently received a load of scattering shot from a gun in the hands of the owner and had to call on a Rensselaer doctor to ‘ have ’em dug out.” Take warning boys.
