K. OF P. CARNIVAL.
A Big Financial Success at Kokomo. Ind.
As the K. of P. lodge here has been talking carnival the following dispatch from Kokomo will be of interest at this time and may furnish a few suggestions for the proposed carvival here: Kokomo, Ind., June 16.—The Knights of Pythias carnival opened here this afternoon, when the first free performances were held. The carnival is to last all week and thousands of visitors are expected. The chief day will be Thursday. It will be marked by a parade, in which MajorGeneral Caranahan and Col. H. B. Smith of Indianapolis, and Colonel Eldridge, of Crawfordsville, will participate. There will be nine uniformed companies in the parade, headed by the famous Kokomo “Kids.” Some of the companies will be from Logansport, Crawfordsville, Indianapolis, Elwood, Tipton and Anderson, and each will be escorted by a Pythian band. The “Kids” under command of Capt. Henry C. Davis, will, in the paiade, carry eleven trophies, six of which are international championship prizes. One of the chief events of the week will be the coronation of the carnival queen to-night at the Sipe Theater. After a spirited contest in which many people in Kokomo have been interested, Miss Minnie Ellis, daughter of police commissioner V. D. Ellis, has been chosen as queen of the carnival. A program will occur at the theater, including an address by C. C. Shirley, who will present the crown to the queen That the carnival will be a financial success is already assured. The Knights of Pythias have realized about S4OO in the voting contest for the queen; every seat for the cornation has been sold, and subscriptions from men in the city amount to $1,600, The “Kids” think they easily have $4,000 in sight. The profits of the carnival are to go into a fund with which to meet the expenses of a trip to Los Angeles, Cal , in August, when the company will enter the competitive drill for the world’s championship. The “Kids” will make the trip in a private car.
