Fish for Indiana.
Z. T. Sweeney, of Columbus, fish commissioner for Indiana, says the government will bring from 100,000 to 150,000 small fish into Indiana this season from its hatcheries. The fish car will come through the state some time in September or October. “The chief obstacle in the way of enforcing the fish laws,” said Mr. Sweeny, “lies in the fact that people who own land get the idea that everything that lives on that land belongs to them. They feel that they have the right to fish and shoot game as they desire. The courts have decided, however, that what’s on one man’s land today and on another’s tomorrow belongs to the state. However, the people are learning ths laws, and it is becoming easier to procure convictions. I have made 1,000 convictions in the last three years. In these trials people are becoming educated regarding the law and there is a better spirit now in regard to enforcing the laws than ever in the history of the state.
