Paying the Fiddler.
The riot down on the levee Tuesday evening of last week has had a partial airing in Squire Troxell’s court. Will Woodworth, of Rensselaer, one of the participants, was badly used up in the fight and he in turn used up Josiah Davisson, a young inoffensive farmer from the vicinity of Nubbin Ridge, who was acting as peacemaker at the beginning of the row, it is said. Woodworth was fined $5 and costs, $13.50 in all, but $3 of the fine was suspended during good behavior. Davisson might have been acquitted, but he said that he was mixed up in the fight and should be punished. As he entered a plea of guilty nothing remained for the Justice to do but to assess a fine, which he did do to the amount of sl, which, with the costs, ran the amount up to $8 50. True Woodworth, another peacemaker, who it is claimed was not in the crowd when the fight began, but rushed in to assist his brother Will, was also fined the same as Davisson. Other arrests will be made as soon as the names of the participants can be learned.
