Arrow Shots.
I shot an arrow Into the air, It fell to the earth; I know not where. —Lonstfellow. When a girl gets married, the women say it is a good thing for she had been chasing the boys for so long, anyway. Every man figures on something he expects to do sometime when he gets out of debt. A man whittling always reminds other people and they go to whittling. Every boy who owns a driving horse thinks everybody ought to know all about it. If a loafer’s persistency were applied to useful employment what a success he would be. If a preacher gets gray young it is said to be oaused from overstudy. If another man gets gray it is caused by dissipation. A real trifling man looks still more trifling if he has a real long beard. If a man has a real thick beard he also seems to want to wear his hair long. ■v »y Our idea of real self sacrifice is a doctor who will treat his mother-in-law honestly when she is ill. A farmer who moves to town always likes to loaf at a feed store. A girl does not' so much dislike washing if she can wear a dressing sacque in the presence of others. When a couple of boys meet they always have a scuffle. Considering how poor the sermons are we wonder what a good many preachers need to study for. How do you like to run all the way to the post office to get there before it closes, and then get nothing. What we call courageous is for an amateur band to play after hearing a band like Sousa’s or Innes.’ Some men have so little idea of the fitness of things'that they will argue with anybody. i- V Ifi . '■) When a man 4? ill l*e hears of everybody who ever.felt the same way. One good thing about a man not in the habit of getting shaved at a barber shop, he does not kick if be has to wait. When you hear a good man abused, do you take his part, or do you subscribe to the slander by keepingsilent. Some preachers make us want to do nothing but swear. Farmers say when feed is high stock eats as if it never could get enough. When we see a well dressed man traveling without a grip we wonder how he carries his night shirt. We never yet had but a few moments in which to do a certain thing that we were not interrupted. Newly married folks act as if they thought everybody was envious of them.
