BAD MAN IN JAIL
Wm. Hale Jugged for Selling Another Person’s Cultivator. Wm. Hale, of Lafayette, was arrested by Constable Vick at Lafayette last Friday, and is now in jail here to answer to the charge of larceny. Hale was in the employ of one of Judy’s branch stores early in the I year and was sent to Parr early in February for some property belonging to the branch store. Among the property was two cultivators, which he hitched onto therear of the wagon. When he reached Judyville there was but one cultivator left. When asked where the other one was he said he had lost it on the road. Investigation was started and at last the miss'ng cultivator was discovered in the possession of James Rodgers, south of Rensselaer. Rodgers elaimed that Hale had put up with him over night and had exchanged the cultivator for his night’s lodging and $3 50 in cash. Rodgers offered to turn over the cultivator, but when the owners went for it the next day, it had disappeared, and now Rodgers will probably have to answer for conversion of property before the matter is settled. Hale has lately been working in a livery stable in Lafayette. The police of that city regard him as a bad character and say that he has been in jail in a number of towns for different offenses.
