Democratic City Ticket.
The Democratic city convention was held last Wednesday evening. The ticket had been selected before hand, except on marshal, for which office there were two candidates. For mayor D. A. Stoner was pro posed, but he said no, and as no one else could be found to accept the empty honor, the matter was placed in the hands of the city committee with orders to chase around and try to find a candidate to run against Jim Ellis, whom they concede to be too strong a candidate to be beaten by any democrat in Rensselaer. For marshal, there were two candidates, A. Simpson, the present marshal, and Samuel Scott. Simpson was nominated by a vote of 78 to 44. Joe Jeffries, for clerk, and Benhart Fendig for treasurer, were nominated by acclamation. The following councilmen were nominated: First ward, Joseph Sharp t Frank O’Meara; Second ward, Charles A. Roberts, David Worland; Third ward, John 0. Ohilcote, Frank Maloy.
