R. C. HILLIS.

Superintendent Hillis is a native of ! Jefferson county but has lived for 18 ! years in Cass. He graduated from the j common schools at the age of 14 and began teach ing at 15. Mr. Hillis comj pleted the scientific course at the Holbrook No' - : al at Lefc.'.con, Ohio, and later after' - 'd Indiana university. He has spent all his time in school work, in various phases—teacher in district school, township principal and county superintendent. 1 When elected county superintendent in 1899 Mr. Hillis had the honor of being the youngest man ever selected for tha,t important position.
