COUNTY CONVENTION.

Murray, H. B. Murray, Charles Bonner, J. R Wilson. As in previous years the Republican convention held in Rensselaer last Tuesday was a latge and enthusiastic one. The opera house was crowded with a good natured crowd of delegates and others.' 0. VV. Coen, of Rensselaer, was elected chairman of the meeting and Fred Griffin, of Remington, secretary. Candidates for delegates to the state convention were quite numerous and nominations were made from each commissioner’s district. John F. Pettit, H.M. Prevo and W. H. Robertson were selected from the first; R B. Porter, Geo. E. Murray and H B. Murray from the second and Charles Bonner, J. R. Wilson and Fred L. Griffin from the third. W. E. Murray Delegates to the legislative couven tion to be held at Hammontf were elected as follows: Edward Biggs, John O’Connor, Robert Mannan, A R Hopkins, L. M. Wilcox, S. T. Comer, M W. Reed, W. R. Peck, Homer Hardy, and Chas. J. Dean as delegate at large. By a unanimous vote of the convention the delegates - were in structed to vote for Jesse E. Wilson, of Rensselaer, for joint representative of Lake and Jasper counties. A similar motion carried unanimously instructing the delegates to vote for Chas. W. Hanley forjudge at the judicial convention. Right here it might be well to say that a vote on the judgeship matter was taken at nearly every precinct in the county Saturday at the preclnot conventions and the vote where taken was universally in favor of Mr. Hanley forjudge. Mr. Wilson and Mr. Hanley were each called upon after the selection of delegates and made a few brief remarks thanking the convention for their vote.
The first nomination for a county office was for auditor. The only nameplaced in nomination was that of James N. Leatherman, of Marion township, and he was chosen as the nnanimous nominee of the convention. For treasurer , four names wore placed before the convention —3. R Nichols, of Barkley township, Philip Blue and James D. Babcock, of Marion, and John A. Lamborn, of Carpenter. The contest was a long ands pirited one, requiring nine ballots to nominate. On the final ballot Mr. Nichols was nominated, receiving the votes of 136 delegates out of the 206. G Hardy, of Marion township, was renominated for sheriff by acclamation. J. W. Wright was ihe only candidate for coroner and received the nomination by acclamation. For surveyor fiara wera three candidates—Myrt B. Price, of Carpenter township, the present incumbent; Hugh L. Gamble, of Marion township, and W. L Lewis, of Union towushtp. Price was nominated on the first ballot, which was: Price 156 Gamble 27 Lewis 21 Two names, A. Halleck and John F. Pettit, were proposed as oommis sioners from the first district, but Mr. Pettit declined to run and Mr Halleck was made the unanimous nominee of the convention. For the second district Nathan Eldredge and Fred Waymire were placed in nomination. Mr. Waymire was nominated by the following vote: Waymire 141 Eldredge 64 Ohas Denham, of Carpenter town 'ship, and Richard R. Foulks. of Milroy township, made the race for commissioner for third district, with the following result: Denham 188 For county councilmen John Hahn was nominated to repr sent the first district; Harvey E. Parkinson the second, John Martindale the third, Walter Porter the fourth, and Ed T. Biggs, Erhardt Wuerthner and Andrew J. Hicks constitute the nomi nees at large.
