BEAT AN OLD HAN.
J. U. Iliff Fined for Beating an Old Soldier. J. U. Iliff, of Jordan township, was fined |8 hnd costs, |18.60 in all, by Squire Troxell Saturday, for assault and battery upon John F. Mitchell, an old soldier. Iliff had been a tenant# on Mr. Mitchell’s farm, and Friday the latter went to Iliff’s to make a settlement. A dispute arose over some point and the assault followed, Iliff blacking both the old man’s eyes and breaking the bridge of his nose. Iliff is a young man and whatever the provocation might have been, should have controlled his temper. The fine was surely not enough, at all events.
