Thought the Boers Were at Home.
The relief of Ladysmith was indirectly the source of an amusing scare to Miss White, daughter of -General White. When the crowd came to cheer Lady White on the morning of the relief she was not at home. Her daughter, not knowing the cause of the noise, was seized with a terror that the Boers were at hand and fled to the home of one of the near neighbors!
